Candence of
Holy Ground
This project has yet to be executed. It is a design and was my admission for the exhibition EXODUS, by the Bijbels Museum, The Westerkerk in Amsterdam and The Turn Club. It was not selected, there were about 800 admissions.
I based my project on the story of the burning bush, where God said to Moses: This is Holy Ground.
The symbolism goes further: God goes with us on our path, like with the Israelites in the desert, in the Bible.
The project shows a photo that I took in the late afternoon of a summers day, at the beach. It felt at that moment like Holy Ground. You can also see a pier, a passing, like in the Bible the Red Sea split. The boy can be all of us.
The design is to place 7 of the photo’s in a row on the wall, as a symbol for the continuity that God goes with us.
Under the photo’s there are symbols of musical harmonies and one hears these harmonies in the space. They symbolize the soul of God, the Life that He gives us on our way. Cadence means a series of harmonies. The ground tone is the same, for the continuity.

The music is composed by myself and played by jazz pianist Jan Willem van Delft.
(In my former career as a music teacher and a choir director, I sometimes wrote music)
