Book of Poetry:
Weersomstuit

My publisher commissioned me to make the artwork for the book of poetry: Weersomstuit.

Ik made a drawing for the cover and 5 black and white drawings for the inside.

The book is about climate and has 4 chapters: The weather, Nature, Pollution and Light.

81 poems by 26 poets.

Materials and Concept

For the cover I used oil pastels and ecoline. I designed several concepts. One of them was to take the tree as a symbol. That was the concept that the editorial team choose.

For the 5 drawings inside, one for each chapter plus one extra, I used ink, pencil, Posca marker and general markers.

Proces

I made a lot of drawings, to explore the themes, several concepts and the materials.

The team that developed the book, came at my home to choose from the different concepts.

I used ecoline and red for the cover, because my publisher once said she liked that.

To the graphic designer

When the artwork was approved by my publisher, I went by train to the graphic designer, to personally deliver the artwork. First the cover and later the other drawings. It was a lovely first encounter for the both of us.

Book Presentation

During the cozy and festive book presentation, the editorial team and myself, were handed over the first copy of the book, by our publisher Fiet van Beek.

I was invited to tell something about the artwork: the theme, proces and materials.
